Parent Effectiveness Training
P.E.T.
Parenting, whether you’re raising a curious toddler or navigating the ups and downs of teenage years, often feels like one of the toughest jobs in the world. Kids don’t arrive with a step-by-step guide, and being a parent doesn’t guarantee that you’ll instantly know the right approach in every situation. That’s where Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) comes in. This program teaches time-tested communication skills that help parents handle challenges with confidence and ease. Families who apply these tools are often surprised by the positive, lasting changes they see—not just in their household, but in all of their relationships. Developed in 1962 by Dr. Thomas Gordon, an acclaimed psychologist and three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee, P.E.T. continues to empower parents across generations with strategies that truly make a difference.
P.E.T. is taught in small groups via Zoom or in-person. Instead of long lectures, you’ll stay engaged through demonstrations, interactive coaching, workbook activities, group discussions, and plenty of hands-on practice.
After participation in the P.E.T. course,
it is expected that parents will have the ability to:
Gain practical communication strategies that bring more clarity and confidence to your parenting.
Improve your listening skills so your children feel safe opening up—building a trusting bond that lasts through the teenage years and beyond.
Express your boundaries and expectations in a clear, respectful way that encourages cooperation and helps ensure your own needs are also met.
Support your child’s growth into a capable, independent, and responsible young adult.
Learn healthier problem-solving techniques that avoid power struggles, ease family tensions, and strengthen mutual respect.
